Each topic studied in Year 7 relates to the GCSE course that students will undertake when they enter Year 10. They begin to study these skills in Year 7 and continue right the way through to their exams in Year 11. This creates the foundation for students; for example, they become more adept at studying Shakespeare when they are introduced to it at an earlier stage. These skills continue to be honed right through Year 8 and 9. In each year students study more complex skills to enable them to reach for the highest possible grades in their exams.
