In Design and Technology students gain knowledge and experience using wood, metal & plastic materials with tools, machinery and ICT to design and make products.
Key Stage 4
Yrs 10 & 11 have the option to study Graphic Communication – part of the Edexcel Art & Design suite of subjects. In the course of 2 years, students do the following:
In the first autumn term of Year 10, students learn the fundamentals of Design & Layout and are introduced to working with 2D Design vector graphics and Adobe Photoshop whilst working through a number of creative projects where the outcomes are geared toward being as professional as possible. Students also experience an introduction to 2D & 3D technical drawing
In the Spring and Summer terms, students embark on 2 units from a list of topic areas: Advertising, Illustration, Web Design, Animation and Packaging Design. They produce detailed portfolios of investigative work and experimentation that resolve into final solutions ready to print.
These two completed assignments are assessed internally and are worth 60% of the total mark for GCSE.
Then follows preparation for the actual externally set assignment and then the externally set GCSE assignment worth 40% of the total mark for GCSE.
