Jewellery, hair and cosmetics

Only a watch and one pair of plain round, gold or silver ear studs may be worn. Any other piercings to the ears or face (not advised) are only allowed to carry discreet, transparent or flesh-coloured studs. Jewellery must be removed before any physical activity. No responsibility can be accepted for their loss. No other jewellery should be worn.

If long, hair must be tied back away from the face to avoid danger in practical subjects. Extremes of hair-fashion are not appropriate for school and will only be tolerated at the discretion of the headteacher.

If worn, cosmetics must be discreet. Students wearing excessive make-up will be asked to remove it. Nail varnish is not appropriate for school and should not be worn.

  • Uniform must be worn in a smart manner with ties conventionally knotted covering all shirt buttons; shirts must be tucked into trousers or skirt waists.

  • Full school uniform should be worn to and from school, during the day, at consultations evenings with parents and on most school visits, journeys and occasions.

  • All articles of clothing must be clearly marked with the student’s name. PE kit, apron and trainers should be clearly named.

  • The right to wear one’s own clothes on Friday is accorded to senior students who have earned this privilege. Guidelines are provided.

The uniform is to be purchased from School Wear United Ltd, 3 Crown Dale, Norwood, SE19 3PB
Email: [email protected]
Web: www.schoolwearunited.co.uk

Uniform required for September must be ordered by the 5th July.

Students should carry a holdall or backpack for books. This should be waterproof, rigid and large enough to hold A4 folders as well as school books. This means that “draw-string” bags are not suitable. Students may also need a separate small bag for P.E. / Games kit.

Mobile Phones

Mobile ‘phones and MP3 players will be allowed in school but should never be audible or visible in a classroom without a teacher’s explicit, prior consent. They should be on ‘silent’ during lesson times. Mobile ‘phones should only be used in school appropriately. Any inappropriate use of mobile ‘phones will result in confiscation, and the ‘phone will only be returned to a parent or carer. Students may hand their ‘phones into the school office at the start of the day, or to the PE office during PE lessons, for safekeeping. The school accepts no liability for the loss of mobile ‘phones or MP3 players which have not been handed in.
